About
Restorative Gardeners
A growing community of gardeners working together to restore biodiversity, connection, and ecological resilience.
Your garden is bigger than you think
We tend to think of our gardens as enclosed spaces… but they’re not.
They’re part of a much larger landscape, and collectively, have the power to support wildlife, reconnect fragmented habitats, and help restore nature on a meaningful scale.
If you have a garden and you’d like to make a difference for wildlife, you are exactly who Restorative Gardeners seeks to support.
Our goal is to connect gardens by connecting the people who care for them. All you need is a garden and a willingness to support nature. We’re here to provide you with the skills, inspiration, and community needed to turn your garden into a powerful force for restoration.
What is Restorative Gardening?
Restorative Gardening recognises that our gardens have the power to restore both the natural world and our connection to it.
It recognises that just as wildlife benefits from connected habitats, people benefit from connected communities. By sharing knowledge, experiences, and inspiration, gardeners can help one another create a patchwork of nature-rich gardens that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Together, our gardens can become a powerful force for restoration, helping to create a healthier, more resilient future for both people and nature.
Why we created Restorative Gardeners
We believe there are millions of gardeners who want to help nature but aren’t always sure where to begin.
Many feel overwhelmed by conflicting advice, uncertain which actions make the biggest difference, or isolated in their efforts. Yet when gardeners share ideas, encouragement, and experiences, remarkable things can happen.
Restorative Gardeners was created to bring those people together.
Through courses, conversations, and shared learning, we’re building a community of gardeners who support one another while creating a growing network of wildlife-friendly gardens.
Every garden is different. Every gardener is different. And together, we can achieve far more than any of us could alone.
Our story
Restorative Gardeners began with a simple belief: that gardens can play a far greater role in restoring nature than most people realise.
For years, Joe has worked as a gardener, educator, and filmmaker, helping people deepen their understanding of plants and the natural world. Along the way, he became increasingly aware that while individual gardens can make a difference, their true power lies in what they can achieve together.

At the same time, Amy’s work in adult education and conservation has shown her the value of bringing people together around a shared purpose. With more than a decade of experience designing learning experiences and building communities, she understands that lasting change happens when people feel connected, supported, and inspired.
As conversations around the dinner table evolved into a shared vision, the idea for Restorative Gardeners began to take shape.

Together, we started asking a simple question:
What if gardeners were connected in the same way that healthy habitats are connected?
What if gardens could become stepping stones for wildlife, while gardeners became part of a community that shared ideas, encouragement, knowledge, and inspiration?
The result is Restorative Gardeners.
A growing community of people who believe that gardening can be about more than creating beautiful spaces. It can be about restoring biodiversity at scale, strengthening our connection to nature, and helping to create a healthier, more resilient future.
If one small garden can make a noticeable difference…
Then a patchwork of thousands of gardens – connected by the gardeners behind them – can make a remarkable difference.
We’re so excited to see what we can all achieve if we put our minds together.
And you’re invited to become part of this growing gardening movement.
